Photography as a Passion for Years
I can not remember when I started to love taking photos. what I remember is when I was 17 I worked for a event magazine, gort a camera and 2 settings for indoor and outside photos got free entrance into clubs and free cocaine and a press pass. Bonus all the way. Packed my stuff and a few mariges to get a green card to get to Australia, to get into art school I had to submit my work and set up a studio in my bedroom as could not affort a professional photographer. I already belived in fine print and spend on that one. I did meet someone at the local pub I worked as a bar made and did something for it, I can not remember, it was not cash and it was not sex either. During my years at art school I had to keep photographing my work and did an ok job with that so other students ask me to photograph their work as well. My trips back to the mother country I got a "Job" for the price of the ticket by an german inventor and playground designer to photograph his work in various cities. Again I got the super duper camera and two settings I requested for. I am not a technical person, for me it is important that In can communicate the feeling and not the technique. After art school I was in dead so i just went for another degree, how dum was I, as I had to pay a shit load of studie fees. I became an art teacher, thanks good at a privat nearly all boys school. Boys in uniform, year, 11 and 12. I have no idea, but the boysstared to work 3 dimensional and therefore needed a lot more time to finish their work. as I was in between to geourges lovers I had the time to open school on the weekends, and pots blitz here there where, working away, yes with a few tinnies, but hey. One of my manyfavorite students is now a very well known photographer, Jesse Marlow. i gave that private school biz a miss and went into the non for profit sector. on paper 30 hours a week according to the papers, but with a boss called marlyn you easile did not count the hours.
I did photograpy gigs with not owning one myself. I had an office space with the Council of St Kilda, a grand building with great equippment. luckily even as a guest I was able to claim their resourses. I got a paid job to photoraph a climat conferenc, we are talking 2004 and I just borroweed the council equippment . I got could b the major of St kilda as the Camera had the sticker Property of St Kilda council in the front, Now I know in those cases use gaffer to cover it.
I also had no ide how to use a tripod, as I had connections to photography studies college I borroed on of theres had a quick call of how to use it with Julie Moss ore I can not remember.
Turned out to be trickier as I thought so I went to the nearby park to get up to speed to set up camear a on the tripod and to use free hand and quickly back onto the trypod. As I was experimenting with that. Mind you after yeaers in Australia, you do not feel slightly embarred to make an ass of yourself. My luck, in the park there was this random dude and he helped me as he was a photographer himself, fucking luk again. marilyn an ex alkoholic chucked it in as a ceo and for me it was time to move on.
